I learned about Northwestern’s predatory recruiting practices on the reddit MLM (multi-level marketing) sub.

This excellent Guardian article discusses how the company misleads and victimizes interns, young recruits, AND their clients by flogging inappropriate whole-life insurance.
‘Friends end up blocking you’: Northwestern Mutual sold college grads a dream job. They left in ruin and debt
Expecting to be financial advisers at the Fortune 500 firm, some hires say they were ‘gaslit’ into peddling ‘terrible’ life insurance to all their contacts

Everybody is talking about that gross Livvy story but meanwhile the real NYT is out-jerking the NYT headline bot:

High risk pools were completely inadequate to the task of covering expensive people in the individual markets.

Ironic that Emmer from IN sites MN’s pool. In the 90s it was the ONLY pool that really functioned and had substantial enrollment. IN also had a pool, but it was tiny.

I am about the same age as Rob Schneider. I was the youngest of four and my parents were Depression babies, so I have a century of family health history.

—my father had polio as a child. For months his father massaged his weak side with peppermint oil and hot compresses every night.
It rules so hard that Americans used to have 8 kids because “the sorrow” would take at least 3 of them but now every condition was invented in 2010 because of woke or some shit, it rules so hard that people this dogshit dumb are making rules and telling doctors what to do
I remember it very differently, but I must be wrong if the Makin’ Copies guy is spitting facts

Andrew Cuomo’s campaign just posted — and quickly deleted — this AI-generated ad depicting “criminals for Zohran Mamdani.”

Features a Black man in a keffiyeh shoplifting, an abuser, a trespasser, a trafficker, a drug dealer, and a drunk driver all declaring support for Mamdani.

I’m cheap, but two things I pay for are a subscription to 404 and Eve smart plugs.

Eve products are more expensive, but everything is local and works with my Homepods via Threads/Matter.

This is a fun story, but 404 is covering much more important stuff, e.g., Ring’s partnership with Flock.
The AWS outage bricked people's $2,700 smartbeds, leaving them in a reclining position or with the heat up. People were unable to use them, basically. A GitHub repo exists that lets people operate their beds without reliance on the normal infrastructure

The AWS Outage Bricked People’s $2,700 Smartbeds
When Amazon Web Services went offline, people lost control of their cloud-connected smart beds, getting stuck in reclined positions or roasting with the heat turned all the way up.
