Tell me you've never actually seen The Terminator without telling me you've never actually seen The Terminator.
“If there's gonna be a terminator, let him be American.” Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice explains why she says the U.S. needs to “run hard and run fast” and win the tech race with China.

I know this is serious and concerning, but all I see is (yet another) AI butthole graphic.
Read this.

However bad you think AI is, it’s way worse and more dangerous.

“Models from all developers resorted to malicious insider behaviors when that was the only way to avoid replacement or achieve their goals…Models often disobeyed direct commands to avoid such behaviors.”

throwback to 2008 and my stoned laugh as this EMB145 swept-wing commuter jet stalls and plummets from the sky.
Stalling an EMB 145
In March of 2008 I got stuck in Houston, TX trying to come back from SXSW. My father in law, Larry, is a pilot instructor for Continental Express and teaches in…

That maturity and realism was in the DNA of the original show too, evident in many episodes, just masked by campy f/x. Agreed TMP gets a bad rap. It’s too long, but a solid Trek film - one of the best in the franchise. 🖖
Put on Star Trek: The Motion Picture last night thinking it would make me doze off. Actually watched about half of it. I wouldn’t call it “gripping” exactly but it’s got a maturity & realism that’s different from the original show. More like 2001 or Solaris.

I love how in Mission Impossible: TFR they are fighting against an AI that wants to control the information super highway. The script could have been written in 1993.

I see you, Disney f/x nerds.

This rundown of local creemee spots by @sevendaysvt.bsky.social's Chelsea Edgar is excellent and a fun read. For non-Vermonters, "creemee" just means "soft-serve" but when done right, has a higher fat percentage. #vermont #creemee

Spent the last 10 minutes trying to play Andor and restarting the Disney app and my RokuTV and nothing. Just a black screen. Fucking frustrating.

Not enough people talk about how @tmbg.bsky.social has been quietly crushing it for 40 years without a drop in quality. Name another band with that record. They aren't mega stars, but holy shit are they consistently great. And their live show is fire. #tmbg #they #touchthepuppethead

I never hear anyone talk about this brewery like they talk about the Alchemist or Hill Farmstead, but every can I open of Mill River beer is fantastic. Fast becoming my favorite #Vermont brewery.

So I just got a new mechanical "clickety-clack" keyboard and in doing research for the purchase I was disturbed to learn that the term of art among the keyboard gearheads for this particular ASMR-friendly sound is "creamy."

WTF is wrong with people?

Man, Andor hits extra hard at this particular cultural moment.

I’m an AP style advocate, but I find the lack of consistency around the serial comma rule troubling. Just include the serial comma! Why make people parse when it’s okay to use it or not? It doesn’t detract clarity to include it in simple lists & we’re no longer worried about saving printing costs.

It's Teacher Appreciation Day! VT Teacher of the Year, Caitlin MacLeod-Bluver, chatted with the AOE about the critical work teachers do in our communities every day and how important it is to acknowledge that work. Thank a teacher today!

Nature is encroaching. My space weather app told me there’s a decent chance of seeing an aurora in the hour or so, and then I was joined by this new officemate, which my species app tells me is a parametric paper wasp.
