I used to think they were pointless because election turnout was in the 20s, but now that they're combined with the provincial elections I think they're quaint. They are possibly the oldest still existing governmental institutions in the world, with the oldest established around 1255.

Rude and uncalled for. Obviously it's Sony product codes 😤

David Cage is imo the worst offender when it comes to "movies except you press a button sometimes"

I can imagine that its incidence is so rare that it would first get diagnosed as something else, but if that "something else" is also bacterial, treatment is effectively the same. A different antibiotic, maybe.

Anthony Weiner as a recurring guest?

I'm reminded of the cave dwellings in Matera that people have lived in for millennia, until they were forcibly relocated in the 1950s.

Benetton's biggest outrage was when they made a poster featuring a dying AIDS patient.

What's funny is that South Park did slip under the radar, despite everything about it being unsuitable for children. I think it's because of the common "oh, it's animated so it's fine" blind spot that many parents had back then.

I wasn't allowed to watch Power Rangers, of all things. I always wondered how exactly that line was drawn, I don't recall it being worse than other kids' entertainment fare.

What I noticed last time I went to Greece is that they love to pan fry them in olive oil, which I haven't seen much in restaurants elsewhere. Usually they're deep fried or baked in the oven.

Look, we made speculaas and then just ran out, okay?

Wat ik ook heel vaak merk in reacties op politici: de ene na de andere grove belediging en tenlastelegging, maar wel vousvoyeren.

Je moet natuurlijk wel beleefd blijven hè?

Waiting for Elmo is probably the best Godot parody out there. "A play so modern and so brilliant, it makes absolutely no sense to anybody."

I've always been interested in late 1800s/early 1900s propaganda, and with the temperance movement specifically it was pretty jarring how many of them feature the suffering of family members.

Socialist parties campaigned hard to ban the practice of handing out paychecks in bars, too.

It's also more common with younger travelers going to "cheaper" destinations, which you'll see with the English in Amsterdam and Prague, Australians in Bali, Americans in Cancun, etcetera

Amsterdam now has advertising campaigns telling British tourists to *not* go there. Specifically targeting those who search online for cheap hostels and pub crawls.

When I was 14, I rode the tram to school and told a group of American tourists about all the Amsterdam landmarks we passed on the route. They gave me a €20 note afterwards as thanks. It coloured my view of US tourists for the rest of my life.

Hate tipping culture, but that sure was a big plus.

Last Wednesday I had one in Amsterdam that was stuffed with an Adana kebab. €12 but extremely worth it.

Michelle is in my opinion the Beatles' worst.

My least favourite song in general is probably Don McLean - American Pie. Drags on for way too long, tries too hard to be deep and meaningful, yet still lacks actual substance
