Well this seems ominous

And then: Earthlings by Sayaka Murata

So deeply weird, but I like that. It’s probably a bad sign to be comforted by following a character that is disassociating so intrinsically. Check out trigger warnings before reading.

Again, I need to catch up on this list: How We Fight for Our Lives by Saeed Jones

God, so many beautiful words thoughtfully assembled.

Then I grabbed from my shelf: 100 Boyfriends by Brontez Purnell

Dysfunctional, matter of fact, and sexy. With fabulous passages like this:

After that, an audiobook: Self Care by Leigh Stein

I can’t explain why, but I was always waiting for this to tip from satire into horror. But that’s just a me thing, this was a fun listen.

Catching this thread up: White Magic by Elissa Washuta

So good, so crafty, a good read for making me want to write. (Moonpie also enjoyed.)

Another audiobook: The Age of Magical Overthinking by Amanda Montell

It’s interesting stuff, and I appreciated the more memoir-y aspects. With the history and analysis I sometimes wanted to dig into more of the contradictions and complications.

It would be her anthem

Next audiobook I finished: A Curious History of Sex by Kate Lister

I would listen to Kate explain anything and everything to me, but especially her advocating for the word “cunt.”

Tore through this: The Night Guest by Hildur Knútsdóttir

Love the voice, love the unsettling ambiguity. Anyone interested in reading should check content warnings, though.

Next: Will I Ever Have Sex Again? by Sofie Hagen

Shout out to my mom for bringing this over from the UK, I don’t know that it’s available here yet and I knew I need this from Sofie.

First up: The Museum of Human History by Rebekah Bergman

Loved it, will have to come up with something more eloquent than “vibey and sad” to say at book club, like how satisfying it is to experience all the interconnected stories on a jumbled-just-right timeline.

Pretty much the only tradition that perseveres for me and my dad is making the most enormous bowl of potato salad (it’s a Czech thing), eating it as a side on Christmas Eve dinner and then for breakfast/lunch for however many days afterwards
