Cackles, rainbows, thread and books
After the previous ghosts using blue or purple as a base, I wanted to play around with making a rainbow of ghosts. The first one I ran out of space for purple 😭. The second I had fun adding candles to the background. #watercolor #halloween #ghosts #watercolorofbluesky

I painted some pumpkins over the weekend while mostly home sick. How do I always forget that making and creating makes me a less aaaaaaah being? 😂. I enjoyed playing with all the colors of fall for these. #watercolor #pumpkins #fall

My sunflower patch is so happy! I’ve got a big guy who’s almost as tall as I am and still not ready to bloom! And the little pollen filled bee leggies! I hope yall are ready for eternal sunflower posting. #sunflowers #pollinators

I was very anxious about my drawing skills being up to this one, drew and inked it, then my kiddo Helped 😭. I managed to get the pencil off the center and do the watercolors. Might add a border to go with her pencil at some point 😂. #watercolor #watercolorinnatire #fern #naturepainting

Carrying on through Watercolor in Nature by Rosalie Haizlett, here’s the fly agaric mushroom I painted a few weeks ago. I’m very happy with how all the little details turned out and I reluctantly agree with her suggestion of the aquamarine blue and burnt umber combo for shadows 😂

A geometric watercolor I gifted a friend for their birthday. I was very pleased with the overlays this time. These are such meditative pieces to make. Also featuring Gus and Thor snuggling. #watercolor #gusandthorthecats

Imperial moth I painted last week, also from a tutorial in Watercolor in Nature by Rosalie Haizlett. I enjoyed this buddy’s gentle asymmetry and fuzzy texture. #watercolor #watercolorinnature #moth #imperialmoth

Last week I drew and painted a daisy from a new watercolor tutorial book., Watercolor in Nature by Rosalie Haizlett. This one has you do a detailed sketch, trace in ink, erase, then paint. Certainly more a production than my standard, but I’m enjoying it. Perhaps I can draw now 😂 #daisy #watercolor

First blooming sunflower of the year! The mowers took out my first round of volunteers and it really hit me hard. So I’m so excited for the first bloom! #sunflowers #gardening

I painted some jellyfish for my kiddo’s teachers.

One of my recent watercolor exercises! Butterflies, especially monarchs make me do happy. My workbook and I continue to disagree about color mixing, but that was more excuse to play around. #watercolor #butterfly #monarchbutterfly

Sure, boycotts won’t change everything, but no one act will. If you can, join in. It’s as simple as doing your grocery shop tomorrow instead of today. Or perhaps use today to investigate alternatives to items you buy from Amazon.

On our adventures I painted my friend’s dog Abby, a perfect lady I see too rarely. I’m pleased that I was able to break down the reference photo I used without a guiding tutorial. #watercolor #dog #dogsofbluesky

One of the best parts of visiting my parents is Oliver. My daughter tucked him in with her blanket. #cats #catsofbluesky

The Factory Witches of Lowell by CS Malerich was excellent. Union organizing, witchcraft and lesbians. Simple, clean prose telling the story of a witch and her best friend leading a mill town to strike. #booksky

Here’s a better view of the pearlescent paints. I used Gansai Tambu Opal watercolors. This one has their pink, blue and green. #watercolor #valentinescrafts #pearlescent #gansaitambai

I played around with fun paints to make some Valentines cards. Especially pleased with how the pearlescent colors turned out, though they’re hard to photograph. It’s nice to just open my palettes and create simple lovely things. #watercolor #hearts #valentinescrafts #pearlescent

Now that the LARP event it was made for has passed, I can share this piece of a person in a magical forest unaware they are about to be eaten by a murderous unicorn. I really enjoyed the depth of texture many layers of greens in the trees crested. There are many little details here too!

I played around with some granulating paints by Gansai Tambai. The first picture of potion bottles was just an excuse to play and shows the paints more saturated. The second of bubbles is the same paints with a lot more water.

Slow improvement on these caterpillars! The first photo is my attempt tonight, the second I did the painting and the sketch, the third I started with a sketch in my workbook. I really like the additional little details I added in my final one.
