Teacher of 35 years. Now library goblin, and frustrated guitarist. Cats, Strats and Casinos, with a flirtation with Jaguars. Detest the Govian influence on education, with academisation and MATs particularly reviled. Sceptic and dissenting voice.

Well. I wonder why some academy HT’s and MAT CEO’s are getting so worked up about the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill? @yorkshirebylines.co.uk @bylinesnetwork.co.uk @bylinetimes.bsky.social yorkshirebylines.co.uk/news/educati...

Edugurus who make their living telling classroom teachers how to teach never need to suffer through their own bad advice.

Interesting study suggests that a greater emphasis on teaching quality and more peer observation are associated with more progress in English secondary schools. More observation by SMT isn't. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... #EduSky #UKEd

We neglect the legacies of Volmari Iso-Hollo, Hector Yazalde and Carlos Babington at our peril.

There's quite a few out of this lot whose face turns my stomach, but Lord Baron Daniel Hannan of Kingsclere has got to be near the top of the tree.

He is just so pathologically arrogant and exceptionalist on every single issue. He wasn't just born with a silver spoon in his mouth...

Now get a PE teacher on SLT to understand this!!!
What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders?

History - any form of history - is constantly revising itself. New discoveries, new interpretations, new materials change and deepen our knowledge all the time. It's this lack of absolute certainty that makes history a thrill ride.

A positive autistic space is one where authenticity is celebrated, not questioned. We thrive when we’re allowed to unmask, be ourselves, and feel safe.

Exactly this. Everything about Thatcherism did was a disaster.
This is now verging on the criminal. Thames Water has racked up £15 billion in debt while dumping sewage in water courses and ramping up payments to directors and shareholders. The absolute failure of privatisation.

Yep
So much of what is important and real is ignored, and so much of what is focused upon is unimportant and not real.

It is exhausting.

An excellent thread.
Saw a front page headline about the woman from the superyacht who managed to save her baby from drowning in the Med and, sorry for stating the obvious, but we don't get those headlines for the migrants desperately trying to make a new life for themselves & their kids when they drown.

One of the most important things for allistics (non-autistics) to understand about autistics: We often have “spiky profiles.” We can be very good at some things & very bad at others in combinations that surprise allistics. Being excellent at math doesn’t mean we can figure out the washing machine.
I went to prestigious schools & did very well at them. But I lived in dorms & ate at the dining hall; I never had to fully take care of myself until after law school, when I promptly found myself out of my depth. But bc of my degrees, it was VERY hard to get doctors to take me seriously. #Autistic
After a diagnosis of autism, some autistic people can doubt their diagnosis. Years of internalized ableism, unconscious masking, and doubts from others can contribute to a feeling of being an imposter.

Have you ever dealt with it?

Academisation needs to be ended and all MATs abolished. The disgusting corporate approach has no place in education.

Things I detested about teaching over 35 years:

The word "pedagogy"
Meaningless job titles - "associate assistant this and that"

Teaching is essentially simple. The shills and edugurus complicate things in order to bolster their egos.
