Petai is a bean with a strong smell and flavour, and it can still be smelled in one's urine a couple of days after consumption. It's devilishly expensive because every pod contains just a few beans. I paid SGD2.80 for 100g, and that's cheap for petai.

Upfront payment leads to all sorts of unhappiness, like the time I bought a 5-dollar offering pack at the Jade Emperor temple and an hour after accidentally ordered tea with sugar instead of without.

But, we have no record of any kings or significant water source there so the name’s origins are a mystery.

Time to go to 济正宫 to 还愿 (huan yuan, give a donation to thank the deity for wish fulfilment). In Chinese folk religion, a lot of deities operate on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis.

Subsequently I met people whose office locations contained words like ‘Marina’ but the only meeting to come to fruition was the one at an office in Ayer Rajah - the only one that literally had ‘water’ in its name. Ayer Rajah is a Malay name that literally means ‘King’s Water’.
