Lover of early music and former professional baroque/natural trumpeter. (Damn you essential tremor!)
Folks who are into #printmaking and #woodengraving … a small CNC does a great job cutting corian printing plates from inexpensive eBay cutting boards!

If you work really small, you could get even more. Here, I’ve got two 4x5 and two 4x4 blanks… plus a bunch for stamps.

Scenes from today’s shop set up… The weather in Tennessee is absolutely stunning this week. Nice to work outside!

I’m refurbishing a #shopsmith into a sanding station this week.

As I begin to move into a new shop, I’ve been sketching concepts for both a new banjo neck attachment system and a potential workbench structure. In this age of non-human “creativity”, putting pen to paper (metaphorically) is so liberating.

Listening to this #bop today while cleaning out a long gone loved one’s shop… to make room for my new shop. Both bittersweet and exciting at the same time.

#printmakers Can a hand press such as an Acorn, Washington, or Albion be used for mezzotint and other metal plate work?

Thinking of making a small copy of a Stansbury press. Would love to use it for mezzotint.

I have an etching press already, so this is just curiosity getting the better of me.

#classicalmusic folks, are there any vinyl/cd-only eBay finds that might be worth looking for in 2025?

I think most are now streaming, but I’m moving and going to set up a dedicated listening area. Looking for rare stuff worth adding to the collection!

#oldtimemusic and #jazz too.

@lylehutchinsmusic.bsky.social So nice to see you here!

#Printmaking pals, have any of you used (or seen used) scratchboard work as the basis for wood engraving?

(Not necessarily the hyper-textured images)

I’ve been thinking that it would be a great play with, but I don’t care for the idea of not being able to print copies on my little press!

Friday night music to hit you in the feels. Melancholy and yet not despondent. They say loss is the price we pay for love… I kind of feel like this movement from Fauré’s Requiem really nails that, musically.

1/2 The title is a bit broad in its assertion… but one thing I do agree wholeheartedly with is how important ambiance and location are to classical music.

Missing my #earlymusic friends these days. As a once-upon-a-time professional baroque trumpeter, Xmas and Easter brought about lots and lots of #Bach

Always was a thrill to play his music!

Friends in the #printmaker community… have any of you used Corian for wood engravings? If so, how did you tint it before cutting?

I have some white that’s come in and am about to transfer my designs. Been wondering if anyone’s found a good way to tint the block.

Addie the cat says thanks!

Digital mock up for another portrait in a series of wood engraving (or maybe linocut) portraits of #bach. I’m intending to only use spaced vertical lines to establish values, but have yet to decide just how rigid to be with them.

WELL worth the read… fantastic take on Beethoven and his human-ness. Enjoy!
Today is Beethoven's baptism day, which means yesterday might have been his birthday, so I'm going to recreate the Beethoven birthday thread here

Feel free to mute this post if you don't care to see it all again

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs.

Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this?

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends:

1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration;

2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you;

3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

Aron Wiesenfeld (1972) is an American painter renowned for enigmatic work. His figures in solitary landscapes capture a sense of departure and of leaving innocence behind. Decidedly contemporary, the scenes are redolent of disaffected youth, alienated from society and adrift in magical environments.
