Directed by Alan Johnson and not Brooks as many believe, it does have Mel Brooks and his then wife Anne Bancroft as the leads, and the title is of course a play on the quote by Hamlet in William Shakespeare's famous play of the same name.

When Hitchcock walked out at movie's end without saying a word, Brooks feared that Hitchcock hated the movie. But days later, Hitchcock sent a congratulatory case of wine to Brooks, knowing that Brooks was a wine connoisseur, and declared the film "Splendid! I wish I had done it."

Later remade into one of in my opinion one of the better remakes by Hollywood and along with 2005's King Kong is actually better than the original.

The last of the Monty Python films, not counting And Now for Something Completely Different (1971) and Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl (1982). Also A Fish Called Wanda (1988) is not considered Monty Python though it stars most of the alumni (except for Graham Chapman who would die in 1989).

Considered one of the most controversial religious films of all time next to Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ, its no wonder this film was considered blasphemous upon release, only to get a cult following years later.

Starring Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin and directed by Gilliam and Jones, the highest-grossing British film released in the US at the time and set a new standard for comedy that was later followed by Life of Brian, The Meaning of Life, etc.
