As stunning as Shearer is, she really isn’t up to the level of the other actresses in the film. They’re more interesting and have much better dialogue as well.

I actually just read the book. I think I might have seen the film in college but need to rewatch it. I think people remember the controversy surrounding it but not the film itself

I love Gabriel Over the White House. It’s an odd film made at a time when people were worried FDR might over reach his powers due to the Depression. Not a great film but very interesting in context with when it was made.
