That surprised me too. I doubt my 'short' walks are ever less the 30 minutes.

I’ll be there!

One coffee shop near me only has their opening times posted in a reel! It’s ridiculous!

I'd arranged to have lunch at the pub at a high point in our local hills yesterday. It was six miles away. I took the e-bike. Half an hour later, I was at the pub having climbed a total of 600 feet to get there. It's the first time I've tried it but it won't be the last!

It's ridiculous. Like @mattmartin82.bsky.social said, it's only a box ticking exercise by Aldi with no thought about useability at all.

We have a similar problem in our new local Aldi.

I know it's difficult see the bike racks * but they ARE there - just hidden behind all the trolleys!

* Some are just visible on the righthand wall.

That old A/C unit is giving off "Danger, Will Robinson!" vibes

My bit of the Surrey Hills has an abundance of bridleways used by horse-riders, cyclists and walkers. I think one of the critical factors is good drainage. So long as the surfaces are firm with no mud or standing water then they are equally accessible to anyone on horseback, wheelers or walkers.

Not just US retail. This is a new small mixed-use development in Surrey, UK.

Developers:
"We're supposed to include bike-parking in the scheme..."

"...OK, we'll stick them behind the over-spill bin storage. No-one will notice."

In the UK, you can claim 20 pence per mile from your employer tax-free for using your bicycle for work.

That's so WRONG! You should have had a bacon roll (main course) followed by a Hot Cross bun (pudding)

I don't have an e-cargo bike but do have an e-bike with a rack and panniers. Until I got it, I didn't realise just how easy it was to replace short car journeys with an e-bike one. Regardless of whether someone's looking to buy a replacement car, I'd suggest trying an e-bike to reduce car use.

I think what you mean is that it wasn't the wheels, it was the speed. Otherwise you are perpetuating the suggestion that big wheels equals illegal.
April 2, 2025 at 1:22 PM
Please don't equate bikes with 'thick wheels' with illegal bikes. Fat bikes (bicycles and e-bikes with chunkier tyres) have been around for years and are legal. You may have seen bikes which wouldn't be considered e-bikes under the law but the fact they had bigger wheels is not relevant.

There's a narrow road near me where it's obvious on-street/on-pavement-parking causes problems - arguments have even turned violent. And yet, multiple car owning families still buy houses on it expecting be able to park outside their new homes.

I know not everyone can do the following but:
- shop more frequently (it's only a short distance away)
- take a family member to carry some of the shopping
- use a shopping trolley
- use a cargo bike
