50 years ago today, the SDWA was signed into law.

“The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) is the primary federal law in the United States intended to ensure safe drinking water for the public.”

But at least one Utility skirted it w workarounds (loopholes):

Since our eldest is spending Christmas abroad—the first time our family will be apart for the holidays—we opted to give her the honour of transporting the tree this year.

Happy #TreeByBike season from our home in Delft to wherever you might be. Now, let’s get that hashtag trending across the globe!

Angelita got more pushback from these activists for introducing administrative roadblocks for ICE than Dan Ryan did for calling colleagues Nazis.

The epitome of performative activism is punishing people trying to do positive things while staying silent about inaction—or overtly negative action.
On weds night, after the crowd spent hours saying Angelita was uniquely pro-ICE (???) clr. Koyama lane highlighted that Mitch (a white guy) co-sponsored the reso. The crowd then began bullying Koyama lane
It’s also not lost on me these same folks are praising my male colleague for clarifying the permit process for the ICE building while they’ve raked me through the coals for explaining it.

Genuinely hilarious.

Admin Jordan has long dodged Q’s, been complacent on issues that matter.

As ex-BES Utility Director, he worked w corrupt Water Commrs & top-paid Water Directors who hid excessive lead lvls…failing Utility’s job to minimize lead at 🚰

ie $312,500/yr for keeping City + State officials out of the news
Don’t ask Jordan such hard questions.
Councilor Kanal asks city administrator Jordan about who has the responsibility to make a decision on whether the ice permit should be revoked and he answers that it's the administration.

I wish we lived in a land where if journalists heard the president call one of their colleges "piggy" or suggest another of their colleagues, who was butchered for what he wrote, in some way had it coming, they would close their laptops, leave as soon as possible, and ask to be reassigned.

“Insufficiently treated River water was causing lead to leach from aging pipes.”

“[MI Gov] claimed Flint’s water was safe and that elevated lead levels were caused by lead pipes in household plumbing.”

Who wants to write the Wiki for Portland Water’s lead crises?🤷🏻‍♀️

Portland Water Bureau applied for an emergency access permit and a conditional land use permit to build a *mega-industrial water filtration treatment plant* w miles of new pipelines on RURAL land strictly zoned 4 farming & agriculture?

Did PDXers have say in this NOT-required PWB $2B project?

I’m disappointed that we didn’t pass our amendment to redirect money from sweeps to upstream solutions like rental assistance, food assistance and immigrant and refugee support. But, I’m proud of the work that went into it and the absolute resolve in my colleague @councilormorillo.bsky.social

This is a slap in the face and a naked attempt at a power grab. If the PPA and their wealthy backers want to put up a ballot measure to fund more police positions, they can do so without raiding a program that’s helping protect vulnerable communities from climate change.
Ballot Initiative Will Seek to Reroute 25% of Climate Tax Revenues to Hiring Police
A citizen ballot initiative backed by the Portland Police Association will seek to reroute 25% of revenues from the Portland Clean Energy Fund tax to fund the hiring of 400 additional police officers.

I went back and watched this exchange today, and the response to Smith’s questions (from her colleagues and the O) encapsulates something that holds Portland back.

It is absolutely insane that the City Administrator, who makes $300K+/yr, couldn’t answer this question.
