Artist- Garbage
Song- I think I’m Paranoid

I didn’t hear this song when it initially released, I came across it on the Gran Turismo 2 soundtrack (one of the greatest video game soundtracks outside of the FIFA franchise). But this song would become a huge hit internationally.

Artist- The Mac Band
Song- Roses Are Red

Another good song the great Babyface. This song didn’t catch on as well as it should have. Without Babyface their second album was not nearly as successful as this. But it’s cool that all of the brothers still work in music today.

Film-Stormy Weather
Cab Calloway & His Orchestra
Dancers- The Nicholas Brothers
Song- Jumpin Jive

One of the best dance scenes in a film. The full scene is incredible.

Artist- Dan Hartman
Song- I Can Dream About You

One thing I really appreciate about Dan Hartman was his honestly. He wanted his music to have mass appeal. Performing pop, soul, rock, disco, he dabbled in everything.

Artist- Steely Dan
Song- Do It Again

Steely Dan is an act that you can’t put into any particular box or genre. It’s just music. I think that’s what makes their music so lendable to sampling.

Artist- The Doobie Brothers
Song- What a Fool Believes

Can’t ever get enough of Michael McDonald’s vocals, and the way the band harmonizes, really a lost art.

Artist- Gary Clark Jr
Song- Come Together

Such a talented artist and guitarist. His YouTube is FILLED with great covers and original works.
August 26, 2025 at 12:59 AM
Artist- Toni Braxton
Song- Love Shoulda Brought You Home

Written by the GREAT Babyface. You can tell a Babyface song as soon as you hear it. Originally written for Anita Baker. Toni Braxton usually gets left off 90’s RnB list, but I would put her right up there with anyone.

Artist- Moby
Song- Porcelain

Originally Moby didn’t like this song and almost left it off the album altogether. The title of the song is a double entendre.

"Porcelain is fragile and white, and I am fragile and white...when I relapsed...I did a lot of throwing up into porcelain things."

Artist- Daniel Bedingfield
Song- Gotta Get Thru This

This song was sooo far ahead of its time. It was made on his computer in his room, along with a few other songs.

Artist- Phantogram
Song- Fall In Love

I’ve been listening to Phantogram for the last few days. A really eclectic group, sounds like MGMT (post oracular spectacular) with an RnB edge. Sounds amazing.

Artist- Caitlin Cannon
Song- Love Addict

I’ve never been able to get into classic country, nothing wrong, it’s not bad. Just not my cup of tea. But some of the modern artist have grown in me just a bit. Here’s a good one.
August 20, 2025 at 2:17 AM
Artist- Pino Donaggio
Song- Lo Che Non Vivo (senza te)

One of the greatest songwriters and musicians. Looking into classic Italian musicians, Pino constantly comes up. I love a great film soundtrack and score, known for his works in European and American film, here’s probably his most notable song

Artist- Joy Division
Song- Love Will Tear Us Apart

There’s so much story and context behind this song, almost impossible to do it justice in a caption. Rest in peace Ian Curtis.
July 13, 2025 at 6:03 PM
Artist- Dej Loaf
Song- No Fear

Multi-talented and underrated. One of the few artist that can go back and forth between different genres.
March 19, 2025 at 12:17 AM
Artist- Muddy Waters
Song- Hoochie Coochie Man

Two great sounds that don’t get enough recognition as stand out “sounds” are the Philly soul sound and the Chicago blues sound. One of those most recognizable post World War II blues tracks, Hoochie Coochie man
February 26, 2025 at 1:16 AM
Artist- DeBarge
Song- I Like It

I think Ray and I could should do a show with the best performances from Soul Train and Showtime At The Apollo Theater. The first hit from the DeBarge family would be sample by a ton of artist, LL Cool J, Beyonce, Grand Puba, Wreckx-n-Effect, and Warren G.
February 24, 2025 at 2:05 AM
Artist- Joy Division/New Order
Song- Bizarre Love Triangle

For me, this encapsulates what the 89’s looked like. One of New Order’s most recognizable songs.
February 24, 2025 at 12:02 AM
Artist- The White Stripes
Song- Hello Operator

I was pleasantly surprised to see The White Stripes on the list of candidates for the rock hall of fame. Some of their work before the White Blood Cells album gets overlooked a bit. Here’s one of my favorites, from the De Stijl album.
February 19, 2025 at 1:56 AM
Artist- Mariah Carey
Song- Vision Of Love

I had no idea Mariah Carey’s Rock And Roll Hall of Fame candidacy would be a hot topic. Figured she was a shoe in off of numbers alone. There’s some tough competition this year, but Ray and I both think she gets in this year.
February 18, 2025 at 11:31 PM
Artist- Gang start
Song- You Know My Steez

This song shows the great versatility of primo. I remember first hearing this song back in the day thinking it was a kid capri beat. And as usual guru delivers.
February 14, 2025 at 4:19 AM
Artist- TOOL
Song- Schism

As a drummer, this was a very difficult song to learn. Even with the sheet music I struggle with this. I REALLY appreciate the artistry in this song.
February 14, 2025 at 3:28 AM
Originally released by Tito Puente in 1962, the song gained worldwide recognition when Santana released his version in 1971. The Hammond B-3 organ is often referenced when it comes to blues, soul, and metal. It’s put to great use in this song.
February 14, 2025 at 12:20 AM
Artist- Faith Evans
Song- You Used To Love Me

I think Faith Evans is one of the artist that gets overshadowed from the crowded 90’s. This song was originally meant for the group Total.
February 11, 2025 at 4:40 AM
Artist- Matt And Kim
Song- Good Ol Fashion Nightmare

One of my favorite bands. They were featured heavily on the tv show Community. This is one of the bands that got me into indie/indie pop. Stripped down and simple.
