I honest to God I thought that was the intention all along.
And I thought the ending of the last Bond movie was simply the logical conclusion of that.
New Bond act would restart the franchise, but not necessarily a new origin story, just a new set of adventures.

My understanding is Moore wrote the comics, got fucked out of the rights and simply has no time for discussing the past.
I'm not much of a Moore fan but have actively avoided adaptions of his stuff just cause I can't support anyone profiting from fucking over a creative.
