In the past 2 weeks I’ve been getting acquainted with SICS, a video-data platform, thanks to the scouting course I’m doing.

The idea was to pick a club and scout 3 players on 3 positions.

I picked @Carabobo_FC and scouted these players.

Gonna be talking about them soon.

Crafting a report on Jan Paul Van Hecke (CB | 2000)

Calm under pressure, excels in Brighton's build-up play. Thrives in tight spaces, distributing precisely under pressing. Reads the game well, positions himself in a high-line (can be exposed by quick transitions)

I got one free week of @besoccerpro thanks to the scouting course from Objetivo Analista and the amount of information you can obtain from players is crazy.

This a profile report from Raúl Asencio - Real Madrid.

🇻🇪 Jefferson Savarino Scouting Report

Quick analysis on physical, technical, tactical & mental attributes.

A dynamic winger with excellent vision, high work rate & tactical flexibility.

Surely would add immediate value to any attacking teams.

🔄 Defensive/Attacking Transition

After recovering the ball, Carabobo transitions quickly:

- Long balls from the goalkeeper or defenders target aerial duels.

- Wingers and the center-forward combine to progress through the flanks.
January 26, 2025 at 11:30 PM
⚔️ Defensive Phase

Carabobo employs a medium-high block with coordinated pressing:
- Up to 6 players press the ball and mark passing options.
- Central defenders stay behind the half-line to prevent counterattacks.
- High-pressure situations force opponents into long balls
January 26, 2025 at 11:30 PM
🔄 Attack/Defense Transition

When losing the ball, Carabobo executes a quick retreat:

- Wingers drop back to cover fullbacks.

- The team forms a 4-5-1 or 4-1-4-1 block to maintain balance and recover possession quickly.
January 26, 2025 at 11:30 PM
⚔️ Offensive Phase

Carabobo uses two main approaches:

- Direct play: Long balls from the goalkeeper or defenders to quickly reach the opponent’s half.

- Combination play: Building from the back through the fullbacks and pivots to progress the ball.

Just finished a report about @Carabobo_FC game model to get to know them better.

I watched the tournament final vs. Deportivo Táchira on December 8th.

Really cool to see what Merino has done with the team!

And glad to analyze my hometown team with a different view🙌🏻

Crazy story: Newcastle rejected signing Zidane from Girondins because the chief scout reported he was only worth for Wolves who where at the bottom of 2nd division.

As a scout and person, I’d feel miserable looking at what he became if I had the chance to sign him…

I’ve been using it today for Python code explanations and so far the responses have been pretty good compared to Claude which is the one I’ve been using lately 👀

It’s available through web and app.

The good guys from Sport Data Campus shared this book for free, I’m halfway through it and it’s awesome. If you want to practice your Spanish and read about data, give it a try.

Perfect for a Sunday reading.

PS: love the fact that Claude is listed as co-author 💡

📈 The results:
Clusters revealed distinct player profiles for both positions. For example:
•One cluster identified midfielders excelling in tackles and interceptions.
•Another highlighted forwards dominating in shots and aerial duels.

🛠️ Pipeline overview:
1️⃣ Load & preprocess data.
2️⃣ Scale performance metrics.
3️⃣ Evaluate cluster quality through metrics scoring (Silhouette Score, Calinski-Harabasz).
4️⃣ Visualize clusters to interpret insights.
