I watched the Led Zeppelin doc and I realized one of the main reasons they are so great is because of Page and Jones' experience playing on/arranging like every UK pop record for several years before deciding what it was *they* wanted to play. No way to fake that

The Beach Boys’ “Little Saint Nick” has one of the greatest lyrics in the history of pop music: “Christmas comes this time each year”

Bandcamp Friday - I am most proud of these two albums, one is my best solo-ish work, one is our best full-band work. Buy one or both at the link in my profile

RIP Steve Cropper. A guitar player for the ages. One of his lesser-known credits is a bit of guitar on Big Star’s Third/Sister Lovers. Apparently Alex Chilton’s weird druggy depressive vibes scared him and he stood outside the room to record his licks

I used to read constantly. Now I just don’t have the time or space in my life for it. Maybe I will again some day. I didn’t know it at the time but I was front-loading my life with literature. Glad I did!

We checked out Crystal Grottoes cave near Sharpsburg, MD. It’s been decades since I’ve been in a cave, I used to explore wild caves as a kid/teen. Since the Appalachians are made of limestone, there are many caves around where I grew up. A fair amount have been turned into tourist spots like this

RIP Jimmy Cliff. The Harder They Come is one of my favorite movies. My dad showed it to me when I was a kid and of course I instantly fell in love with the music and the outlaw story, it’s a perfect movie. JC’s singing is unparalleled, heavy reggae soul. He has now crossed the last river

I posted our recent album MF on reddit for a lark. The sole comment:

"Ok...well...for me....the recording quality is lacking, I found it a little quiet and lacking any moments or dynamics. Sorry."

I've long felt that there's no reason to hate on any member of The Dead, it's a vast tapestry and why not just embrace it all. But I feel like this goes hardest for Donna Jean, who I will always think of as "the Christian Linda Sharrock" and like all women in rock was hated mostly due to misogyny

“Krautrock” was very informed by a generation of young people reckoning with the atrocities their parents committed or at least didn’t actively resist
