As someone who primarily listens to rock and alternative (with slices of electronic and Americana too) 2025 has been a banner year in that overall scene. But no one is listening to it other than Sombr. It’s been honestly depressing.

Lose Control is the defining Millennial AC anthem of the 2020's. I don't think there's any doubt at this point. Millennial normies just eat the song up; look at the Spotify statistics, this isn't just radio. If anything, radio won't let it go because Millennials won't let it go.

The “Discover” tab quickly reveals BlueSky is every bit a toxic cesspool that Twitter is, possibly even worse in some ways (there’s a LOT of calls for violence), but it’s easier to wall yourself off here compared to Twitter. I don’t view as one being “better” than the other objectively due to that.

My fear is that just like the Boomers didn’t really get out of the way to let Gen X have their moment, we’re going to do the same thing to the Zoomers.
Everything since 2022 has kinda indicated to me we’re going down the same road but arguably worse so I’m trying to sound the alarm now lol

Durry's an interesting artist. Definitely some strong Weezer influence with them. A little bit of Cake and Pavement in there too.
I've always leaned slightly off-beat and heavy. I do like a few of the early-10's EDM-pop & folk songs my generation loves but never embraced either scene.

Too British is my theory. He has a thick accent, plus quality-wise he can be inconsistent. It might be preventing the American mainstream from embracing him.
"Lovesick Lullaby" is gold though IMO. Might be the best song he's ever made. If he crosses over that'll probably be the one.

Thank you! It's just a theory of mine, but I think that plays into why "Ordinary" took off the way it did too - it's the Millennial hit song playbook with a 20's coat of paint to my ears. It's quite possibly one of the few hit songs Millennials are currently listening to I think.

7. In short, I think this is the new normal and not something making the music industry uniquely sick. Just the usual thing that happens when a generation ages, but the newer generations being significantly smaller is causing things to tilt unnaturally. END/8

5. "Ordinary" charted higher than the Boomer AC songs I listed because there just aren't enough Zoomers or Alphas to offset Millennials clinging to this remnant. It's nothing more complex than that. I think Millennial AC will be BIG for the next 10-15 years. 6/8

3. Just like the 90's, music is going through a tumultuous if more subtle change. Trends go against Millennials. The last remnants of the 10's are vanishing as we speak, just like the final 80's vestiges were leaving around this time 30 years ago. It's not our time anymore. 4/8

2. The Zoomers and younger Alphas are much smaller than Gen X and younger Millennials in the 90's. As Millennials turn into dinosaurs just like the Boomers did, there just aren't enough young people to make up the difference. 3/8

To get more scientific though, I think there are multiple factors impacting music right now that didn't affect the 90's. To list:
1. It's much easier for old songs to stay forever or blow up and occupy chart spots compared to the 90's. TikTok, streaming, etc. ensures this. 2/8

It absolutely did, and it shows through the limitations of the characters. The women are to one degree or another all smug and self-assured (even Molly shows glimpses of this), and all of the men are on a slider of stupidity, from "a little slow on the uptake" to "how is this guy still breathing".
