Today’s #proofofoutside. Made it out there just barely before dark, but I made it!

Almost forgot to post last Saturday’s
excursion: a land trust in Maine that looked classically November in all its browns and grays.

They had fairy houses and obstacle courses set up of the kids, which were a big hit with our young friend.

This book has everything: cringe 2000s-era fandom, toxic friendships, a sociopathic twink, sublimated trans feelings, Quakers, and 9/11.

So I’ll have to go back sometime to learn how that came about. Why here, in this random spot in rural Maine?

I did get to admire many pieces of blue-green stone, like fluorite, watermelon tourmaline, and one called Elbaite I hadn’t heard of before. Apparently it’s another kind of tourmaline.

Today I went to the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum in Bethel and got to touch a chunk of the moon. And Mars! No photo cause a kid is in them, but here’s a ridiculously large chunk of smoky quartz. So glowy…

Coming directly off an ARC of T Kingfisher’s Wolf Worm, aka the one with the terrible botflies… Yeah, sure, fuck it, lemme just read all the bug horror.

So I started watching Pluribus

Why am I still gardening? It’s too cold out!

I can’t recommend this setting enough. When something major with one of them happens people I follow will typically comment on it, so I’m not totally at sea. But being able to filter out these dudes at least in part really helps me not descend into madness.

Day 2: A beautiful beaver pond! It made me think of how I still want to read Eager by @bengoldfarb.bsky.social.

I haven’t been doing well at getting outside before dark recently, so I’m going to start posting proof of outside in hopes it will help me get out there.

Here’s day 1, a wasp nest on a birdhouse at our local conservation center.

I greatly enjoy how vapes in media invariably show that a character is either a try-hard, very young, or dorkily evil. Like that one cardinal in Conclave.

"We have moved past the era of being progressive except for Palestine. It's not going to fly anymore."

This activist with Jews for Peace, Morgan, has important things to say and also an excellent fit. Love that Gays for Zohran shirt!

A few hours left to pick up great indie comics! Here are some I’ve enjoyed so far. (Descriptions in alt text.)

And here are some trans books on my TBR!

I have You Weren't Meant to Be Human out from the library now, so that one will be next.

Here are my suggestions! Including SFF, romance, horror, literary fiction, short stories and graphic novels.

Here’s where they’ve been until now. Pretty, but they’re hard to see behind taller things and are reaching for the light more every year. So here’s hoping they’ll do well in their new spots.
