kind of adding on to a lot of the existing advice here, my two go-to's are either a wet towel in the microwave and then wrap around my neck, or a hot water in a coffee cup, and push that against the sore spot, so it's a combination of heat and forced massage

did they shoot a male man, or the mailman?

recover losses through a lawsuit if anybody does skim you. and there was a recent lawsuit against an AI company for scraping stories, only people who had done so are getting paid. but nothing you can really do to prevent it to begin with

honestly, lot of little tricks and text edit techniques that people have used to try and limit web scraping and illegal sharing of the writing, and none of them really work. actually filing for copyright and sending in your work through that process can possibly help

or have no clue what the other items cost? But seriously, ouch.

people interacting with and sharing to others, and have the other platforms you are posting on lead back to that one

and honestly, if money isn't a concern, but still something you wouldn't say no to and would be nice to eventually get for your writing, you can do all of the above. the big thing I have seen is that if you do multiple, figure out what you prefer your primary platform to be that you want the most

you can absolutely have a free tier that people don't need to pay to view, and put your stories as updates there. add in some tiers where people can pay to support you, maybe see the next story sooner. but still have all your content visible, eventually, for free

I've heard a lot of authors like using substack as a kind of newsletter / digital magazine service. I'm not fond of it, haven't played around too much with it, haven't done much research. Also, Patreon can be a decent platform, again with money not being a real issue for you,

there's also a lot of people who use just traditional social media platforms. I have an updated it in way too long, but I have a Facebook page specifically for my writing personality that I was posting short stories and flash fiction too as individual posts, as I was doing the same on my own website

99 cents, although that tends to sometimes drive away people who are randomly searching as some people have a feeling that if the story is only 99 cents, it's not worth buying. your mileage may vary

alternately, and or in addition, there's nothing stopping you from putting your short stories into your own ebook anthology volume, and self-publishing through ebook platforms that way. if money isn't an object, you can always mark the price as relatively cheap,

it provides a platform for people to subscribe to your feed of updates, leave comments, things like that.

alternately, you can build your own blogging platform, WordPress is still the king there I think, on your own website. generally pretty easy, but getting views can be a little more difficult

royal road, scribblehub, a couple others.

basically, blogging platforms built around the idea of authors sharing stories, so each individual story has its own main page and thread, although again, you could make a single "story" that you would sequentially put your various short stories into.

In terms of publishing online, there are a variety of hosts / aggregators built for the purpose. Most of them are designed around the idea of larger work serial novels, but I have seen, and I'm using one myself hopefully, eventually, as a platform for multiple shorts. especially if they are

what do you mean by "protected"? like, to avoid being scraped ( having somebody copy your work and present it elsewhere as their own for sale or for free but outside of avenues that lead back to you)? or something different?

was also where my mind instantly went

I tried to do a thing in 2003 with a bunch of different authors publishing on wordpress under a larger umbrella of a single website, but fumbled it. a lot of the serial platforms around, especially the two I mentioned above, are basically that, wordpress but all together

a lot of action in the serial scene on aggregators like royal road, scribblehub, ect
