At a Harlem education thing this morning, less than twelve hours after touching down from Atlanta for a convention of math educators.

I can feel the energy coming together. Trust.

I just went to this Amy Sherald exhibit at the Whitney Museum and it’s like taking an integrated arts and social studies lesson at once.

See for yourself:

Chuck Mangione was one of the few celebrities I've met who you presumed was kind and actually was. His music is good NYC walking music and that's high praise.

Even on stage, he played like he was sharing a gift he received from on high. He met with every fan, including this one:

In my last class, I had the honorable former congressman @jamaalbowmanny.bsky.social in class and I'm so grateful to meld policy, research, and practice for these future policymakers.

We're really outside!

Start spreading the news.

Graduations (and hoodings) provide a sense of closure that simply getting the degree doesn't.

Defended in August, conferred in October, celebrating now.

Will you be attending #AERA25?

I'm part of three sessions. Topics:

- The role of research towards a multiracial democracy
- The intersections of education justice and teacher learning
- The work of graduate students studying race and education

A participant. A panelist. A chair.

We outside!

Good morning!

Another revolution around the sun for me. On this #JLVDay, I'm grateful for my intuition. Doubling down on my principles with love and justice has carried me here.

I wish for y'all the same. 🎂

What’s good?

Jose Vilson, former 15-year math teacher turned sociologist (PhD). I gained notoriety as a teacher activist during the NCLB/Bloomberg era, and got my blog blocked from all NYC DOE computers!

Update: I voted early in NYC on Monday.

Got off the bus. Walked five minutes. I walked in, got my ballot, filled in a few circles, put my sticker on, and walked right out. About 15 minutes total.

Oh, and I got a thank you on the way out from the workers.

10/10, fully recommend.

You're right that we shouldn't think locally about our politics, but usually, it *is* the down-ballot politics that get lost in the arguments about presidential candidates.

And if your state has early voting, you have the time/space to vote, and you know what you're voting for, no need to wait.
