Postdoc at OHSU studying inhibitory synapses. Mother to two megaesophagus dogs and many indoor plants. She/her.

I just want more people to know that both of my dog children have megaesophagus and they eat their meals side by side in their special little feeding chairs.

Perhaps my favorite piece of Wright Lab lore is that we have a lab phone that we never ever use but every couple of weeks it rings and without fail it is a patient trying to call the hospital’s pain clinic and we just give them the right number and go about our day. We’re essentially a switchboard.

I’m 32 years old and today I did a LOT of algebra for an image analysis pipeline I’m developing. Tell your kids - you never know when that shit will come in handy.

And just like that, #AQLM2025 is over. Hopefully we’ll all find ourselves in the same windowless microscope room sometime soon, bead slide in hand.

Y’all should follow @aqlm.bsky.social to keep up with the cool topics in microscopy we’re covering this year! (I’m the social media intern)
Have you ever seen the black box that is the inside of a microscope objective? Today Dr. Stephen Ross of Nikon gave a fascinating lecture on what goes into the design and manufacturing of an objective.

Are the checks and balances in the room with us now?

I *would* say that we are going to see incredibly devastating [health, humanitarian, environmental] impacts of the current administration, but they’re making that data inaccessible. Interesting tactic, I wonder where they got the idea…

Congrats to @thejenjay.bsky.social and collaborators for their hard work, and thanks to NINDS, CureCMD and MDA for funding this project looking at hippocampal synapse function in mouse models of dystroglycanopathy
Inhibitory CCK+ basket synapse defects in mouse models of dystroglycanopathy
Loss of functional dystroglycan disrupts the formation and function of CCK+/CB1R+ inhibitory synapses in hippocampal CA1, resulting in reduced seizure thresholds in mouse models of dystroglycanopathy.

All I have to say about electrophysiology is that no other technique has made me bleed.

On the confocal all day today and tomorrow to crank out a huge dataset. Look at those little Purkinje cell axonal swellings in the cell body layer! Not sure who they’d be talking to in that location. Some could be PC:PC?
