I see it as the reverse. We are creatures of unparalleled evil. We have destroyed environments for no grander purpose than an invisible number go up. We are almost certainly the species with the most extinctions directly tied to it.

A technocracy would be marginally better because at least they would have actual expertise in the field they are managing. This is just industrialists believing that since they are hypothetically (sometimes not actually) good at one thing, they should be in charge of everything.
