After Chen exposed Garmadon at the end of the Elements Tournament, Wu publicly insulted and humiliated him. Ironically, Wu is almost always responsible for Garmadon's actions, but he doesn't back down. Lloyd's father was transformed into a half-demon because of Wu.

It would be ironic for Wu to force him to unlock his oni form during his crystallized times and then face such a situation. If you watch the series carefully, there are moments where Lloyd would be justified in holding a grudge against Wu.
