Pete Hegseth is Secretary of Defense *because* he championed war criminals. Literal war criminals convicted of heinous offenses in US courts martial. Got Trump to pardon some in term 1.

Not in spite of, because.

That's what Trump appointed, and what 50 GOP Senators (plus Vance) voted to confirm.

The reality, of course, is that Miller and a significant portion of Trump’s base are the ones who failed to assimilate to America’s post-WWII culture of multi-racial democracy & religious pluralism…and they are now using their power to destroy that once dominant (and still popular) American culture.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Pagel's work is invaluable for trying to keep track of the scale and reach of the extremist right wing revolution.
The US is also what rampant populist authoritarianism looks like

If you fear state retribution for criticising the state, you are not in a free democracy.

The journalists should do a collective "boo" or "shame" every time he does that.

Trump and his lackeys can either throw a tantrum and kick out the whole group or he can stop doing that shit because of how embarrassing it is to have an entire room call him out live on camera.

I can't think of something less controversial to say about US presidents than that Trump is the most openly corrupt president in US history. Shame on the BBC.
NEWS --> BBC confirms to me that they did edit a line out of historian @rutgerbregman.com's speech. It called Trump "the most openly corrupt president in US history."

BBC also confirms this was done on the advice of lawyers. So Trump's threats worked.

New piece:

Trump’s Fury at BBC Gets Unnerving Results with Pro-MAGA Edit Stunner
First, British Broadcasting Corporation execs resigned after Trump complained about a segment. Now the BBC edited out a line from a historian that was critical of Trump. Where does this end?

Walz had it right: the Republicans are all a bunch of fucking weirdos from Trump to Vance to RFK Jr and on down the line. A bunch of fucking ignorant-ass weirdos.

The Trump administration inherited an economy that the Economist called "the envy of the world" in a cover story a week before the election and easily could've coasted on that success (again) but instead they set it on fire.

When did America decide to give up its power and hand it over to Russia and China? Hint: it has something to do with Trump.
The “deal” deprives Ukraine of everything it has won by withstanding Russian aggression and defending the borders of Europe.

It rewards Russian lawlessness—and makes America complicit in the lawlessness.

It’s the end of post WWII American power.

“Support Our Troops” crowd is awfully silent about Trump placing soldiers in this position
Oddly enough, in media coverage of Dems' video warning against carrying out illegal orders, there's very little discussion of *whether it's actually reasonable to fear Trump is giving illegal commands or not.*

The evidence is strong that he is. Media should say so:

Unclear where this war profiteering plan came from or why it emerged right now, but clear that it is in every way disastrous
This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

Good example of how an acronym can dehumanize consequences and mask what’s going on. Syntactically, “Diversity slayer,” “equity slayer,” or “inclusion slayer” sounds weird. They aren’t “slaying” these things; they’re promoting and supporting their opposites: segregation, unfairness, and exclusion.
