Recently, I had an "itch" that I needed to scratch by writing this piece for ByBlacks.com. I'm indebted to publisher Camille Dundas for her thoughtful editing, and to Teneile Warren for their counsel. byblacks.com/opinion/item...

I'll be attending an ONDP staff forum in TO later this week, & there will be an optional anonymous holiday gift exchange on Thurs, with a $20 value limit. I went to The Canada Lecture on Citizenship by Tanya Talaga at KPL tonight, & I bought one of her books, which she signed. Great timing!

Chair of the police civilian board wants a pat on the back because in 2023, the WRPS started measuring its disproportionate use of force against racialized people. In the meantime, he also wants to increase funding to hire more of the police whose disproportionate use of force is being measured 🤷🏻‍♂️

To the drivers who have complained about the injustice of speed cameras, may I ask what you'll do with the time you'll reclaim on your journeys when you're able to drive faster? Take a 2 week vacation in Aruba? Write the Great Canadian Novel? Orchestrate world peace? The opportunities are endless!

Headline from CBC KW: "Wilmot seeks volunteers to shape educational component for Prime Ministers Path project"

One reader commented, "Place plaques with information leading from one PM to the next so people can learn what was happening at that point in time."

A rich, cultural experience in KW this weekend: running into friends at a pow wow on Sat, plus Prof. Laura Mae Lindo's book signing, & a workshop for new play "The View From Here" today. The play is about Grandview Training School For Girls in Galt, where my friend Lynda was incarcerated as a child.

This exquisitely designed book is based on a powerful poem by Christopher Tse, which we heard in a documentary called "Exclusion: Beyond the Silence". The poem, and the book, describe Chinese-Canadians' experience with systemic racism throughout this country's history.

When it comes to self-sufficiency for seven specific food groups - fruits, vegetables, dairy, fish, meat, nuts & starchy staples - the only country in the world to reach 100% in all of them is Guyana. Canada is fully self-sufficient in just four.
