So if not experiencing empathy is a trait of personality disorders, what is communication like for them? The limits of my language are the limits of empathy.

It is weird to think about how a shared language works on a kind of empathetic idea that we know what each other means, when we have no guarantee of that except seeing people react to words the same way we might (shorthand Wittgenstein)

I have met some very well-read people who seem to have personality disorders, which makes me wonder what they’re getting out of literature, exactly. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Brains work in mysterious ways.

I think Elon Musk should try reading some books but I don’t think they will make him a better person. I don’t think that’s possible for him.

All my life I have had to deal with sociopathic privileged white male idiots like Musk being hailed as geniuses. 🥂

Her work was so important to me as a young survivor of rape and DV. I felt seen/represented in her work more than in anything I was reading for school.

Under ordinary circumstances, this story is just for me to know about and treasure for myself, not to brag about, but these aren’t ordinary circumstances.

That woman then came over to me and said “I was just talking to JCO and she said you were smart and I thought you should know” and that is the kind of thing you should share with other women and I thank them both. The pineapple was particularly good that year.
