I’m Sue from Sydney. I’m a horticulturist and plumber who can usually be found pottering or marveling at the curious, amazing and sometimes peculiar Australian gardening sights.

Completely unrelated to gardening but I had to share this book. Young Alfie Bains is a character you can’t help but love.
Highly recommended. What’s everyone else reading?

Popped into my mother-in-law’s place today and couldn’t help but admire the hedging. Seriously impressive work. Clean lines and not a leaf out of place. Garden goals right there! 🌿✂️🙌

This is the bane of my existence… Jewels of Opar (Talinum paniculatum).

This monster has a long tap root and soft, succulent stems. It grows like the clappers and seeds even quicker.

I’m dead against chemicals but this thing makes me want to dunk my head in some!

Treated myself to a bunch of native flowers today, just because I can. 💐🤍💚

Most apt common name ever… Tractor Seat Plant (Ligularia dentata reniformis). 🚜🪴

Meet Callistemon ‘Fluro Burst’. A stunning pink flowering bottlebrush that grows to 1.5m high but less than a metre wide.
Perfect for those narrow spots near pathways. Champion. 🩷

When humans look at something we find beautiful it causes dopamine release in our brains & looking at plants shifts our brain activity away from fight or flight & into rest & digest mode.

Mother Nature must have been high when she decided neon orange and pink would work on the same flower. Somehow though, it actually does. 🙌

Australian native Chorizema cordatum – Flame Pea. 🧡🩷

It’s Mother’s Day here in Australia. To all the Australian Mums and all mothers worldwide, I hope you’ve had an amazing day. To those whose Mums are no longer here, I hope you’re doing ok. Much love. 🩷💐

An Australian icon, the Eucalyptus. One of my absolute favourites. Even the gum nuts are beautiful.

The vibrant purple flowers of Tibouchina ‘Alstonville’. This small tree is hugely popular in Australia, especially for the burst of colour it adds to a dreary Autumn day. 💜

The cooler weather is upon us here in Sydney. Lovely to see a flowering Chrysolephalum ‘Desert Flame’ in Heathcote today. Silver foliage, papery yellow flowers. 💛

I’ve been road tripping around the bottom of Victoria, Australia.
No reception, no phones, no internet. 🥰
This is Wilsons Promontory, the southernmost place in mainland Australia. Absolutely beautiful and untouched.

There’s something very cool about serving up a meal from your own vege patch. Not a great pic but a delicious feed! 🍅🤤

I was getting a bit worried about my strawberries. All leaf, no flowers. A dose of potash and viola! 😍🍓

Sword Lily (Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora) is a striking bulbous plant native to France. Sadly it’s an invasive weed here in Australia. It’s highly adaptable and out competes native plants in Aussie bushland. ❌🙅‍♀️

This fellow is guarding my tomato plants here in Sydney. 🙌 I’ve been trying to identify him with no luck. He wouldn’t let me get a shot from above. Any ideas?

Laurentia ‘Pop n Fizz’. A small, mound shaped Australian native that is covered in masses of purple flowers over the Summer months.
Great name for a great plant. 💜

Quite odd… Just one tomato suffered from Blossom End Rot. The rest of the crop on all plants are perfectly fine. 🤔🍅
