Thank you @booker.senate.gov @warnock.senate.gov @hankjohnson.house.gov for taking time during the shutdown to meet with my nephew’s class who had traveled from Macon, GA for a 5th grade trip to DC.

Obligatory “airport” photo as I wait for my flight to Kansas City. Excited for the next couple of days as I get to spend time with Adam Hamilton and other UMC pastor’s from across the US as we start the Emerging Clergy cohort. #BeUMC

55 mile gravel ride today…these outdoor rides are the best thing for my mental health in these crazy times.

Looks like nice weather and earlier sunrises mean I have lost my excuses to NOT run. Time to catch up on that yearly mileage goal!

On a positive note this week I will cross 1,000 miles of cycling for the year. #runsky #bikesky

Getting outside and riding through some beautiful farmland was the self-care I needed. Have you experienced “awe” this week?

Photos (at least my photos) can’t capture the beauty you can find on gravel roads in the country. #gravelbike #bikesky

Read the chapter on spirituality in “The Anxious Generation” by @jonathanhaidt.bsky.social
It left me encouraged that people need the practices and habits offered by religion. Therefore, the church, though struggling to find identity and purpose, can find an invaluable role in modern society

We’ve been above freezing for 3 hours since Sunday. This Southerner isn’t used to this kind of cold!
January 23, 2025 at 3:19 AM
Thought about riding 30 miles to get “30 miles under 30 degrees” BUT I don’t think my winter gear is enough for these temps! Looks like indoor training on the Peloton instead.

Both forecast cannot be right. Will we get #southernsnow round 2?

6000 miles for the year completed today…

I am making plans for 2025. This prayer from John Wesley reminds me that as I make all my plans the MOST important thing I can do is surrender these plans and my goals to Christ. To make sure that I am always willing and available to make changes so that God can use me for God’s own plans.

I’m new to swim meets but I am learning that camp chairs and books are key to survival. Seems like you sit for a couple hours to watch your kid swim for a couple minutes! I guess that’s better than running across fields to catch a glimpse of your kid on a XC course!

I am on track to log 6,000 miles of cycling in 2024. About 60% of those miles on are my Peloton. This is mostly due to schedule and lack of access to safe biking roads. How do we count Peloton/indoor trainer miles vs outdoor miles? Or am I over thinking this? #cycling #peloton #training #biking

Continuing my celebration of ways that small/medium (less than 125 in average worship) churches can have large community impacts. Every Wednesday my church facilitates "mini-VBS". Around 60 kids come after school they have snacks, learn Bible stories, do service projects, and play games.

Small/medium churches (under 125 in average worship) can still make a profound difference in their communities. Our church was able to give almost $6,000 to a local food bank to help provide Thanksgiving meals and has raised around $14,000 to help provide Christmas presents for local children. #UMC

In November I’ve been doing campfire “worship” for youth. We are a small group rebuilding after losing 1/2 church membership due to our church remaining #UMC

What are other small member youth groups doing that’s working in your contexts?

Here’s a post for #bikesky and #cycling communities: I am on track to achieve my goal of 6,000 miles ridden on bikes this year! That would be an improvement of 1,000 miles from last year. What cycling goals are y’all hitting this year? Is #strava here yet?
November 15, 2024 at 12:43 PM
I’ve been using Peloton and specifically power zone training to improve my FTP. Looking forward to put these new results into practice on some long multi-day rides.

Let’s see your #Thanksgiving rides! What did you get in this week?
