I used to be a scientist and a beekeeper, but now I'm just a beekeeper who writes (and talks) ... about bees and science. I promote local bees and honey, and responsible, sustainable beekeeping.

Hmmm … they're proposing breeding healthier bees by selecting a single gene. That sounds even less likely than selecting native Amm by wing morphometry alone. Vitellogenin is important, but I think they've yet to demonstrate fitness gains from my reading of the paper academic.oup.com/jee/article/...

Unlike many other honey bee 'vaccines' this one is not GMO so perhaps more likely to get licensed and/or get approved faster and/or be more acceptable to beekeepers. Encouraging 😄

Looks promising. The magic words in the bumph are 'no excipients' (meaning no inert crud or glucose 😄). £65 for 200 g here (andermattgarden.co.uk/products/var...). Don't understand how this can be sold over the counter considering poisons legislation.

Looks pretty toxic to me from those Kaplan-Meier plots! The accumulation in tissues is a big problem, and lithium is associated with neurological side effects. The authors are reasonably negative about the prospects (for its use) in the discussion. I'm not holding my breath 😉.

That's just like my extractor … except 800 times bigger 😉.
