Refugee from the dying world of Unicode X. Ex-physicist, software engineer, enjoys bad movies, and occasionally ranting.
I've spent the past week making a new sourdough starter after the old one went moldy a while back (I broke my hand and couldn't bake, so the starter died) - this pizza dough I made with the new one shows that it's off to a great start!

@gallaethamatt.bsky.social found this posted over on the other place, thought you might be interested!

Amusingly, the Scottish Tories lost their deposit after tubthumping that only they could beat the SNP.

Beautiful North Queensferry in Fife, taken from a train going over the Forth bridge on the way to Edinburgh.

So this is my pizza for tonight. I've been trying to stretch it by using "the DJ method" (i.e. moving your hands like a DJ mixing a disc on a turntable) and using a perforated peel instead of a wooden one to cut down on the amount of flour. Wasn't as puffy as I'd like, but still tasty.

If you're lucky enough to have the opportunity to journey from Fife into Edinburgh, do so. It has some of the most beautiful sights in the UK.

This is, in effect, an argument for laziness. It says "It's unfair that you can do something I can't because you put in the effort and I didn't", and also is calling for us to exist on remixes forever more, with generative AI feeding on art that is made by generative AI.

Tonight I made the greatest pizza that I've ever made! Didn't use semolina on the peel, cut down on sauce and cheese and et voila - the undercarriage and leopard spotting of my dreams!

Used a 72 hour fermented hybrid dough of sourdough starter and active dry yeast. It was delicious!

Funnily enough, a graffiti artist who frequented Dunfermline City railways station subway agreed with your assessment.

Chrome has a new feature (or at least new to me) where it tells you how much memory it's using for each tab. A tab with a video is using 234MB - that's more RAM than a top of the line computer had in the late 90s.

I think that perhaps Musk secretly wants to destroy Twitter. I mean, turning it into a fully paywalled site is just one step beyond...

I think this is the first time I've ever seen a computer program use a word coined by Stephen Colbert: "truthiness".

This one goes out to the lawyers trying to get copyright on AI works generated from "research" datasets that really are commercial.

The writing was on the wall though, when it merged with an adware spam company called IronSource, the people behind this stunningly terrible GDC 2022 ad:

If you haven't already, I recommend playing Control. It's got a great story (as do most Remedy games) and it's the only game I've ever played where I can use telekinesis to kill evildoers with a toilet.

Might play it today, as I feel like throwing toilets at weird extradimensional creatures.

If you didn't have the chance to see it in Edinburgh, tonight @soozuk.bsky.social is performing her Fringe show Y2K Woman (or Yak Woman, as she explains in the show) live on Twitch tonight. It was brilliant, well worth seeing!

Michaelangelo has some awfully specific knowledge of what not to put on pizzas, but then he is a party dude after all.

Gordon Ramsey tried to sell me some pizza in an ad. I told him in the comments underneath that who needs him when I did this last night. Sorry Gordo, no sale this time!

Got hungry for pizza, so made myself one tonight. Super high protein (14g) bread flour, upped the yeast so it would proof well in 1hr, used a mix of parmesan, low moisture mozzarella and some mature cheddar I had to use up. Baked for 6 minutes, and man was it good. Sorry Domino's, I don't need you!

I saw Y2K Woman by @soozuk.bsky.social today. Brilliantly funny and nostalgic as her shows always are, and the only show I've seen to involve both yaks and Dead or Alive's, er... "interesting" physics engine. Not quite sure if it's going to be seen as widely as on Unicode X, but still, see it!

So I'm all about that pizza content - I love baking it, and I love taking picture of it to show off, and to document how it went. Tonight's sourdough pizzas were perfect, no store dough needed, and also tasty too!
