People posting about how they’ve never seen em dashes used before the rise of ChatGPT are really great at telling folks they’ve never read a book before.

Millions of us first listened to classical, opera, and other music genres via PBS and NPR.

The right yells about the destruction of Western civ and culture, but aren't really interested in cultural preservation. If they were, they'd support funding for public broadcasting, the arts and humanities.

For nearly two centuries, there's been a harmful misconception that sign language interferes with spoken language development. But the evidence shows the opposite: bimodal bilingualism is actually beneficial for cognitive outcomes in deaf children! 2/

There are no rules in this no man’s land between Christmas & New Years.

Read all night! Don’t finish a book! Read three books at once!

Just go nuts.

I genuinely think we should start calling businesses and schools falling to the anti-DEI movement “segregationists” because they are re-segregating. And earlier rounds of segregationists *also* explained their preferred policy in race-neutral terms (“state’s rights” and “freedom of association”).

Hearing ppl: How do deaf people read without sound?

Deaf ppl: We can explain

HP: Just no info out there!

DP: Here's some studies and curriculum we use to bypass phonics

HP: I guess we just have to keep yelling loudly!

DP:...?

HP: Actually it doesn't matter since most people aren't deaf, bye!

#EduSky ... where are my upper elementary peeps? (Grades 3-6 in the US, teaching kids ages 8-12 if you have another scheme for labeling class groups.)

I teach grades 3-5 reading intervention in Washington state.

Teachers who do not understand "the what", "the how" and "the why "of what they are doing can both steer ships in the wrong direction and be themselves steered in the wrong direction.

The very limited number of people at all levels of education invested in knowing, understanding and implementing what the preponderance of scientific evidence has yielded to be effective instruction for most is beyond alarming.

It sure seems like we are often chasing the next shining object.
