I was a game developer, now I’m not, but maybe I am? It’s hard to tell.
I have a dog and read a lot.
Thisssss.

I don't recall a single instance of sexuality being depicted in those games that I could interpret as nuanced or mature.

(No one tell him it’s pronounced “kay” and not “key” - it will ruin him.)

I genuinely think a lot of vocal Destiny (2) players have just spent so long playing it that their only modern point of comparison for GAAS is Destiny, so whenever it's not flawless they think it's deeply flawed since there have been some incredible highs.

I’m not sure I’d say it’s very similar but if you want a kind of grim but humanity-focused spec-fic story I’d recommend ‘How High We Go in the Dark’ 🤙

It’s really dark but ends up really uplifting. Series of short stories around a climate change-instigated plague.

Destiny (2) is just the game (series) that's held me for the longest and given me some of the most transformative experiences I've ever had around gaming or any hobby, really.

I made some lifelong friends, and thankfully no enemies (I think).

'The OA' was the most surprising and refreshing show I've ever seen and I'm genuinely still upset that it was cancelled and that we haven't even gotten a book or a mockumentary about it, because it deserves to be finished.

I shouldn't need to say anything about 'Jurassic Park' but I'll just say the book is also excellent and maybe better, but that's hard to say for sure.

'Manners' was the one that took the longest to pick since I'm a playlist guy, but it's had the most impact on me for the longest time.

How High We Go in the Dark truly broke me down piece by piece then built me back up to be a slightly different (hopefully better) person:

Also trying to plug in digital signals to the mixer overlayed with the visual synth but it’s a bit too much to manage right now, or I need to refine the signal somehow

The basic workflow here is:
1 - visual synth w/ audio in is making the basic geometry, which reacts to the audio’s gain levels
2 - glitch mixer takes in video signal and breaks it a bunch, syncs it back to its original signal, then outputs
