I have a dog and read a lot.
He was apparently very upset that I put my tree up before taking down my Halloween stuff outside (it was raining all week, sue me), so I decided to be a little petty last night and redecorate.
Not gonna lie, I kinda dig it, but I’m really hoping he doesn’t.

1 - visual synth w/ audio in is making the basic geometry, which reacts to the audio’s gain levels
2 - glitch mixer takes in video signal and breaks it a bunch, syncs it back to its original signal, then outputs

GOOD DOG VIBES HERE.
GET’EM WHILE THEY’RE HOT.

God damn this was cool and different. Also pretty short and concise, managed to fit an awful lot into <200 pages. Not as scary as I hoped, but plenty thrilling and shocking.

This was a fascinating one. I wasn’t sure I “got” it until later, but once it hit I really enjoyed seeing it unfold. I liked seeing different events unfold from different characters, but all revolving around Yeong-hye.

Severance by Ling Ma
I’m not sure I was in the right place for this one, it didn’t blow me away like I was promised by friends. I did see a lot to love in it though, I think the first half’s pacing just didn’t work for me. Still very good 👍🏻

Weird. Quick. Gory. Unique. 10/10.

Some of the most electric action scenes I’ve ever read (and I’ve read DOZENS). The excessively heightened world Nana gives us feels just close enough to our own to come out of this wanting to protest and tear down our own fucked penal system.

I appreciate much more when this series follows the same characters for more than a few chapters, for sure. The twist at the end was well-telegraphed, and well-executed.
Incredibly satisfying to try and often succeed to predict what’s happening next.

Okay this was sick. I found myself lost in some of the storytelling in the first half but at least most of this book takes place within one decade, I believe? Story was ultimately far more compelling as a result, and I absolutely did not see the twist coming.

I'm kind of glad the show isn't a direct adaptation (even if it's still fairly flawed in comparison), since this would make for a really boring show. Thankfully it makes for a fascinating book.
Psychohistory is cool as fuck.

This was a WILD ride. I loved how fast-paced it was, and the format made it super easy to read if your brain is conditioned to skim Slack conversations. Super enjoyable and an effortless read.

Started this one (of course) because of how much I enjoy the show, and I was thrilled that I enjoyed it almost as much. Light on characterization, but seeing the show first helped my imagination fill in a lot of gaps I think? Great story, cool world.

I found all the personal stories and connections to the game very touching and moving; I could have read 200 pages of that! The rest was a wonderful reminder of how convoluted the story is and it all comes together really well.
