Surprise anthology release today!
Scott's planet is a shared world anthology about a colony abandoned on a world still in its Carboniferous period. That means giant bugs, no real trees, and a lot of wacky biology to play with.

I can attest to this also. Pecan and pumpkin are the most American pies according to the Göttingen American studies department. Why? It's the two flavors that were mandatory for our Thanksgiving dinner.
Because, friends, say "American as apple pie" all you want, but if you are nearing the start of the traditional tryptophan coma, there are only two pies that are truly worthy of being served at Thanksgiving - and this has been proven by international experimentation.

Pecan and Pumpkin win.

This is very interesting (and yeah, I also had an initial “oh come on, that’s nuts” reaction to the first part of this article, but as I read on, I realized he was making some pretty compelling points)
This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

Visited Brooklyn’s great horror bookstore, THE TWISTED SPINE.

Signed copies of a story I wrote for them, available for sale there & not online anywhere.

“Whatever Kills You Makes You Stronger.”

Cover design by Alan Lastufka/Shortwave Publishing.

Plus, I drank coffee out of a skull.

The problem with ICE is not that it's targeting people who aren't criminals. The problem with ICE is that it's an unaccountable secret deportation police. It cannot be reformed under a better president. It can be made less terrible, but the instrument of repression remains for the next tyrant.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

How do you maintain enthusiasm for a writing project, especially when they can drag on for years? The answer might lie in Begeisterung.

Three words.
Jello. Taco. Salad.

My grandmother learned to cook in the 50's. She didn't cook much but desperately wanted to make something us kids would enjoy.

There was taco meat. There was lettuce. There were corn chips and sour cream. And they were all embedded in lime jello.

My aunt who famously can’t cook tried to make a pumpkin pie. She didn’t know what cloves were, so she put garlic cloves in it. Whole.

@nycdot.bsky.social Just saw another car nearly hit a bike caused by these medians on 4th ave being only painted in and people parking in them. If we can't get real medians for the bike lanes can we at least get a bounty program like the one for idle trucks in Manhattan?

It's that time of year when Americans set up quaint, walkable Christmas villages in their living rooms, dreaming of living in such a cozy place.

Meanwhile, they'll show up to city council meetings to fiercely oppose any plan that would actually build that kind of car-lite community in real life.

DO NOT call up the homeless shelter on thanksgiving or Xmas to see if you can pass a few plates and show your kids the “reason for the season”

The homeless shelter is not a petting zoo of human tragedy! The homeless shelter is not a drive thru nativity scene for you to enjoy!
