botanist and ecologist living in the PNW
20 years ago this summer I took a life-changing botany class as an undergrad at Evergreen that got my career trajectory rolling.

Happy to share I am going to teach a field botany class to the next generation of Greeners this summer!

I'm happy to share that @wyowildbotany.bsky.social and I have published a report on the status of federally listed and recently delisted plants in WA.

We report on population trends and synthesize research on some of Washington's rarest plants.

Scenes from the California Lichen Society’s 31st annual meeting and field trip in San Luis Obispo County in Late January. Wonderful group of folks—as always some new faces and some familiar—and amazing lichens. I’m grateful for the community that keeps this little org going year after year.

One of my favorite plants of 2024 was Klickitat lomatium (Lomatium klickitatensis), an endemic to the Klickitat watershed near the Columbia Gorge. It has a small range but is abundant within it, covering the slopes above the river. The anise swallowtails were loving it.

In 2023, I traveled to every corner of WA & visited some of the rarest plants in the state--a wild adventure. Feeling fortunate to work with many smart people doing great conservation work. 2024 is sure to be a wild ride, but I'm glad to have good company for the journey.
