In a wealthy nation, poverty is a political choice.
Child poverty in Scotland is lower than 30 years ago and falling, unlike the rest of the UK.

But there is much more to do - by working together, we must deliver more joined-up services for families, when and where they need it.

This is what Whole Family Support is all about.

Imagine staying as late as we did the other night to vote *against* basic rights.

We all have a part to play, through an active democracy, in making sure this dystopian version of Britain - Great Britain - with our basic rights, our NHS and more on the line, never comes to pass.

This is horrific. They are just out there for the free hate-filled opportunity to kill Muslims. This is the worst thing I've heard to come out of Trump's America.

RUIZ: Did you read the report & fact-check its sources prior to publication?

RFK JR: I did not fact check

RUIZ: It included citations to sources that don't exist. How does that happen?

RFK JR: All of the foundational assertions are accurate

RUIZ: They did not exist. How can they be accurate?

Very moving session on people who have left high-control religious communities at Humanists 2025. People who were going to lose everything - even their family - because they wouldn't stop asking questions, but refused to stop asking questions anyway. Impossible courage.

Today we remember these beautiful words by Jo Cox, who was murdered #onthisday in 2016 by a far-right extremist. Her positive, optimistic, and caring approach to life and politics had already inspired so many. Her legacy lives on, including through @jocoxfoundation.bsky.social. She is sorely missed.

Too often when ex religious people report abuse at the hands of their former religion they are not taken seriously.

I'm blown away by the response we've had at Faith to Faithless for this animation we had made about the difficulties people go through when leaving high-control religions.

I must admit, I cried the first time I watched it.

I'm very proud of the work we do 😊 at FtF/HUK

I played a small part in helping @humanists.uk bring Faith to Faithless under their umbrella. It was set up by apostates from a number of religions to help people who were largely neglected by schools, social services etc. because it’s not widely recognised as a “safeguarding” or other harmful issue
Since February 2024, hundreds of people have received life-saving support from our pioneering #faithtofaithless helpline – the first UK-based phone service dedicated to helping those leaving high-control religious groups. 🧵

This is the service I work on. I left the Jehovah's Witnesses when I was 21, this resulted in me being homeless, kicked out by mum, and losing every friend I had. That was a very isolating time. Today, people don't have to go through leaving controlling religions alone.
I could not be more proud ❤️
Leaving a high-control religious group can be one of the most painful experiences anyone can face. That's where our service #FaithtoFaithless comes in. We help people leaving high-control religious groups. Our beautiful animation – launching today – brings these deeply personal stories to life. 🧵

Human beings have rights. Books, even 'holy' books, do not.

The only acceptable response to religiously motivated violence like this is for societies to reassert the importance of human rights, human lives, and freedom of expression.
