Human cases are rare but that's because most people never have contact with raccoon feces. If you live in a house with a raccoon, you're in near-constant contact

Raccoons also ☝️ carry a literal actual brain worm that can be fatal to humans and other pets. And they're NOT NICE. If you think cats will destroy your house, a raccoon can do it worse. If you want an interesting pet mammal: get ferrets

You can even get a fancy cat with spots and stripes. You can’t make a freaking raccoon or “domestic” fox happy in 99.99% of situations. If you are an eccentric millionaire who wants a pet raccoon, get an unreleasable wild one. I do not wanna see a raccoon pet trade oh my god

Raccoons do not make good pets and they cannot be rabies vaccinated. If a random person touches your pet raccoon and they scratch them it is curtains for the raccoon. We have dogs and cats for large carnivore/omnivore pets. They’re wonderfully adapted for this purpose. Go get one

Linda your cat is developing kidney and heart disease and arthritis your "cute little chonker" is suffering and will need lifelong management for the conditions she develops while she's a 20lb bowling ball of a cat even if she loses weight
