We are devastated by the death of Claire O’Shea, who has passed away from gynaecological cancer at the age of 42. Our thoughts are with Claire’s loved ones, as well as all the women she touched through Claire’s Campaign.

Today, clinicians and stakeholders from across Wales are in Cardiff to learn more about the capsule sponge diagnostic test. This medical innovation will allow the NHS to deliver fairer, faster cancer services for people affected by oesophageal cancer, one of the six less survivable cancers.

Once again, in 2024, nearly 10,000 people waited more than 62 days from the first suspicion of cancer to starting treatment. We cannot afford for waiting times to remain stagnant and need urgent collective action to tackle this disastrous trend.

Over 20 MSs joined us at @senedd.wales yesterday to mark #LessSurvivableCancersAwarenessWeek.

More than half of people in Wales diagnosed with a cancer of the stomach, pancreas, oesophagus, lung, liver, or brain will die within one year. We need urgent action to close the deadly cancer gap.
