The problem to be solved is the system. How do we make the system want to be as generous as our hearts are? How do we make the system stop denying that there is enough to go around? How do we make them stop lying? No, not the people asking for accommodation — the liars are the systems _denying_ it.

Recommend this thread. The very idea that giving to one means taking from another needs to be challenged.
A lot of folks have spent time dunking on this and being angry in response; both are understandable because this view is wrong. But I also understand how people *arrive* at this mindset, because it's the cultural default that we're taught if we don't know any better. One of scarcity and vengeance...
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

I’ve seen all the attention, free shit, and special treatment called a “secondary benefit” (of a person being bedridden 95% of the time, losing their friends and career and almost all the fruits of life) on official documents here in Germany.

I’m not alleging the OP is one of those propagandists but considering I have previously muted them for a different ignorant take about people with disabilities, they should be seen as such until they can show they have actually listened

The entire system is designed to deny accommodations to people desperately in need and there are propagandists out there selling the idea that someone would choose disability — it is the height of brutality

fwiw: I muted mtsw sometime last year after a different ignorant take, also about people with disabilities. I don’t know if it quite makes a pattern yet, but they seem to need to listen up, rather than going off.

I feel that. At least for me, it feels like a lot of the hate has its source in values to protect and care, in justice and fairness. I think it could become unhealthy if unlinked -if that source is forgotten.
