Can we call it Tesla Car Service (TCS) instead of a “Robotaxi Launch”?

Tesla touted a Robotaxi service coming soon to San Francisco. But it told regulators it plans to offer a car service for "friends and family" that's more like a limo service than a Waymo competitor. www.cnbc.com/2025/07/25/t...

This is so on brand for Tesla.

Not to mention it floods the news with shallow Robotaxi headline stories over more detailed and researched lawsuit stories.

We interviewed an attorney repping Benavides (plaintiffs) in an Autopilot fatality case... He said companies shouldn't "shout the claims and whisper the disclaimers." This feels similar. To fans, investors they're gonna do autonomous transportation in SF. To regulators? Charter party carrier!

Good morning, we are once again on the record here in Oakland for day four of the the hearing to resolve the California DMV's complaint against Tesla for misleading marketing of its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving Capability options.

DMV is back cross-examining Tesla project manager Chris Griffith.

😂

DMV is done with questions for their witness. Tesla asks for time to prepare for the cross-examination, while moving to fully strike all of BWS's testimony. "He said things that are very negative, and arguably actionable."

"This is not a case of reasonable people can disagree," BWS says. Regulators object strenuously to terms like "self-driving" for anything other than real, actual, fully autonomous capability. This concern also isn't new, he notes, saying NHTSA clarified this heavily in 2013 guidance.

This is such a horrifying argument: just because people use a wide variety of blatantly contradictory terms to describe systems that they clearly do not understand with sufficient sophistication doesn't mean it's OK for Tesla to deepen this particular problem for profit (while endangering roads)!

Completely agree with my favorite former GS co-worker on this.

2/2 IMHO the most important thing here is that Musk has lost his air cover for the myriad regulatory and criminal investigations. That's the beginning and the end of it, really. The brand is already ruined and MAGA loons weren't buying Tesla's anyway, even if everything IS computer.

Hey Austin, this is why we need you out in the streets documenting Tesla's dangerous and irresponsible self-driving experiment!

If you see Teslas with manufacturers plates, take photo and video (or descriptions of behavior you see) and post them with the hashtag #fauxbotaxi. Public info is key!

Is it strange that Tesla and the City of Austin and haven’t made a single statement about Tesla’s Robotaxi service launching next week?

Ribbon cutting ceremony?

A Parade?

Where, when?

Safety measures?

Permit approval?

Is a service actually launching?

Just imagine all the ways Trump can subtly suffocate Elon’s businesses.

Money losing without govt. subsidies, this won’t be very hard.

No lashing out needed.

Elon would have to have something pretty big (and not implicate himself) to think he wins against Trump.

Trump has a couple dozen arrows in his quiver he could use.

Sounds like the Govt. needs SpaceX, not necessarily Elon.

@ericlipton.nytimes.com
Trump can threaten SpaceX and Musk. But US government needs SpaceX almost more than SpaceX needs US government. DOD is addicted to SpaceX, as is NASA. Starlink is surging in profits anyway faster than SpaceX launch. Yes, Musk gets massive fed contracts. But DOD needs to get to space. So does NASA
