Re: Nikki Glaser's controversial monologue on SNL

Yes, she joked about trafficking & r*pe. But I feel like some dissenting reactions were also tone-deaf to the nuanced informative nature of them, that I picked up on at least.

This was my comment to one such reaction video on TikTok:
I am a mixed race guy born into a far right religious cult where I was trafficked, and while I am aware of having an advantage as a white-passing man who lives with less fear of r*pe or ICE raids, I don’t see this set as exploitative to victims. I actually didn’t know there were trafficking PSAs in women’s bathrooms, and I see her bringing up Ghislaine as a reminder that this is still happening and abusers are still getting away with it. She also brought up white privilege in a way that I’ve heard non-white people point out a lot, so she’s actually using hers to make people aware (but it will probably still fly over many of their heads). There’s being a tone-deaf edgelord for personal gain at others’ expense and there’s using comedy to educate in risky AKA attention-grabbing ways. Otherwise, many who call out trafficking on-the-nose excessively, are usually the traffickers projecting (just look at all the mug shots on @ reichwingwatch on IG). I know I can only speak for myself, but these things are happening here, now, and it’s usually the ones who have experienced these, or resonant dark realities who can speak about them with the appropriate nuance. She actually advocates for a lot of progressive causes aside from comedy so personally, I think she’s doing something right.
