We found some mixed results: no observed effect of the impoundments on leaf litter decomposition, a longitudinal effect on organic matter stocks, and a local effect of high diffusive CO2 and CH4 emissions downstream of one of the two impoundments.

These incredible ponds (4700 m asl) were permanent 10y ago (left). Now dry (right) most of the dry season. Due to climate change and with the current population increases, water scarcity is worsening in the #Cochabamba region.
