Now "browsing" means Netflix compiles your recent watch history and feeds you more of the exact same thing. Or Amazon analyzes your buy history and gives you a list of 15 books with basically the same title. You rarely stumble upon something new or different by chance. It's eroding our curiosity.

Good thread.

One new feature is how much this US regime has been antagonising supposed allies. If the US cannot muster the political vigor to throw murderers and megacrooks in jail, is it a place that other countries (like Canada) can deal with seriously?

We have our own problem "elite", but phew.
It's cute, reading all these anguished cries: "when this is all over, these guys need to go to jail!" I remember saying that during Bush I crimes, and during Bush II crimes, and during Trump I crimes.

Guess how many of those guys went to jail.

I'm not against the idea that some sort of silicon intelligence *might* arise at some point--we're not even nearly there as far as I can tell--but humans are SO programmed to regard things that do not have human agency as if they do have human agency, that this seems like a necessary move
