It kinda sucks, but if you already have some text, you can duplicate the text layer and it will keep the same properties. I'm not sure if there's a better way. 🤷♀️

I was JUST struggling with this. High enough level, handheld mode, upside down, still couldn't evolve. Had to manually disconnect the pro controller.
