Today I had the opportunity to do the ‘wheel of privilege’ in person, the group I’m collaborating with doesn’t do slides and as much as it took me out of my comfort zone, it gave me a chance to do it a bit differently, interactively with post-it notes.

One Tawny Frogmouth on a branch from a side view with brown and gray mottled feathers, looking down at the ground from the branch of a gum tree. It was probably only 3 metres away from me. I didn’t see it at first. I was taking the photo of the pair and I noticed it move. Tawny Frogmouth pair snuggled together next to the trunk of a large gum tree on a perpendicular branch draped with stringy bark making it a bit hard to see them. One is looking at me and the larger one on the outer edge of the branch is looking away showing its short beak and feathery nose. Long tail feathers hang down below the branches,shadowed by the stringy bark in front of them. The trunk is gray and cream coloured with lots of brown streamers of bark hanging all around. Cover of”This All Come Back Now” an anthology of First Nations speculative fiction. From footnote 1: Both of these (diverse writers and people of colour) are descriptors I loathe, as they lump all non-white people together in relation to whiteness, and centre whiteness in doing so. This especially disregards ways of belonging to land and community, or not belonging, particularly as a point of difference between First Nations and settler communities of colour. It also euphemistically equates colour with culture, as radical pseudoscience does, and it assumes commonality of experience under white supremacy without factoring in proximity to whiteness or passing as white or similar privileges…
