Since this was a bit of a hit, here's some more embarrassing oekaki art from 2007 :)
This was my other tryout for the "advanced" oekaki board, which required that you do Shading and A Background, both things that I was very shaky with. I was not accepted. (Put me in, coach! I can do it now!!)

this is 2007 I think but I wanted to share that I was the catgirl equivalent

small digital drawing by me as a kid of an orange cat lying down on a branch of a tree that doesn't make much sense. The lines are pixely but the shading is airbrushy and non-specific. I signed it with a copyright sign.

They gave us little 5.5 x 8.5 pages to type on and I instantly went "wait, let me fold this into eighths".
Then I just typed what came to mind. I think it turned out good!

(typos and errors fixed for alt text. All of this is written haphazardly on a typewriter)

I have approximate knowledge of how a typewriter works from when I was a kid

My dad had some kind of old spiderly machine and I loved to play with getting the keys all stuck in the middle when you press them at the same time.

The limitations of a physical mechanism - all these little levers going to the same place.
There is of course a joy in a physical mechanism and how its limitations drive from the actual physicality of the device itself. Form and function more close than we're used to now...

For instance, I just spent like a billion years solving the simplest logic puzzle: how do I flip this paper so I can write upside down on this side of the page? The physicality of the paper and the tool of the typewriter carriage are both the puzzle and the solution. "Reading the card explains the card" but for the literal 3d space of the page and the machine.
And I struggled on page 2 back there trying to type in the margin when the machine didn't want to let me. Got too close to the edge! The "squiggly red line" of the typewriter is it simply not letting you. There's no "right click, ignore" here.

Oh ho ho I just found the red ribbon switch!! Very cool! THE VERY WORD OF GOD or whatever.
I have jammed these keys quite a bit already hahaha.
It's funny to see the ribbon jumping up to catch the lever before it hits the page. It's more dramatic for the red, which is at the bottom of the two-color ribbon.
Also note: I have finally found the apostrophe (it is on top of the 8 key, of course)

I still have yet to find the numeral one though! Is it a lowercase L?

I remember more than I thought I would when placed in front of a new typewriter again. I'm happy to have been able to revisit the memory! :)

I painted some pigeons in gouache. I like how this one turned out! The background looked like it wasn't going to work, until it kinda accidentally did. I love how the blue shadow on the pigeon turned out, too. I thought the reference would be too hard, so I'm happy it turned out!
