my latest bread attempt: golden buttermilk loaf. first use of buttermilk powder, butter, semolina, or egg wash in baking. definitely could have kneaded it more. the loaf's collapse aside, it came out fine.

ghapama is a great armenian dish where you cram parboiled rice, fruit, nuts, spices, and honey into a pumpkin for baking. this has been on my to-do list for a while, and i finally got to cross it off this week.

on the invasive species front, virginia creeper seems pervasive and very aggressive around here. galinsoga, also an annoyance in the northeastern US (but easy to remove), has nearly consumed some rose beds at jagiellonian

don't think i'd ever seen a gunnera in person before. it's enormous.

october is not the best time to visit the gardens, but plenty was still in bloom outdoors and in the greenhouse. although the orchid greenhouse was closed, which was a tremendous disappointment.

walked ten miles yesterday, mostly in central park. somehow i hadn't visited shakespeare garden before. beautiful plant selection there. not included in these pictures: native asters, blue mistflowers, and cardinal flowers in full bloom.

it turns out you can just put the no-knead dough in a loaf pan. bake bread in a dutch oven next door at the same time. nobody can stop you.
