I do admire your ambition but I think applications for replacement pope had to be a while back

I think @karinsmythmp.bsky.social's feed tells a compelling story about just how much she is contributing to local and national politics:

Idles - Tangk

Bringing up the rear (not that this list is ordered) is the ever-reliable Brizzles @idlesband.bsky.social, still forging new paths on their 5th album. This time they amp up the pop to bring probably their most accessible album to date.

Big Special - Postindustrial Hometown Blues

These guys won me over live, but the record still sparkles. Full of dark humour and heartfelt soul. We needed this record this year.

Nia Archives - Silence Is Loud

Picked this up off the back of the Mercury nod but could've missed it otherwise, which would've been a shame as it's one of the most entertaining records of the year. Pin sharp but reminds me of why I love DnB so much

Slift - Ilion

These weird little french kids have produced some of the cleanest, tightest, most real psych-metal. Best act I've seen live this year as well. They just seem to love being together doing what they do, and that's a beautiful thing

The Last Dinner Party - Prelude To Ecstacy

They are ridiculous and ridiculously brilliant, just how rock and roll should always be.

Kneecap - Fine Art

It's Irish Nationalist Drug rap. Get it.

Jane Weaver - Love In Constant Spectacle

Weaver continues to delight and surprise, with RnB being folded into the electro-psych mix to tell tales of romance. I love you, let's go home...

Yard Act - Where's My Utopia?

Bit of a right turn from their debut, but what a flex! Saturated with grimy disco, the storytelling is sublime. Blackpool Illuminations is probably the most beautiful lyric this year.

Charli XCX - Brat

For all the hubris of Brat Summer (and Autumn, Winter) it's possible to forget that @charlixcxofficial.bsky.social has for many years been the finest practitioner of pop music in the world. This is her best work to date, a perfect concept album for the concept of being Charli XCX.

Sprints - Letter To Self

Fizzes with youthful energy and anger at a world running out of options. Big year for Irish acts with something to say. This is powerful, lively stuff

The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World

At this point, @thecure.com are more a public service than a band, providing elation, reflection and catharsis in equal measure to their fanbase.

For the eternally saddened and damaged, they are our 4th emergency service
