My sense is that these folks have known the GOP has been heading to a very bad and dangerous, anti-democratic place for quite a while now, but even they are shocked by how fast things are moving and how relatively few citizens seem to be noticing/caring. Normalcy bias is a powerful force.

That’s exactly how I think about all the bad guys’ henchmen on all the bad guy movies. Like how do they willingly just act without a conscience? And the henchmen of powerful people who are not necessarily bad on the surface, but who order their men to do bad stuff and they just do as they’re told.
