Assistant Professor at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. My lab studies the role of APOE4 in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. Opinions are my own.
That’s true. Although I do like FDG-PET. Would be great if we could make that more sensitive…but I don’t know enough about PET to understand the limitations on that. To me, the big problem is that fMRI techniques mostly rely on blood flow, but the vasculature itself becomes damaged.

Very cool! Will give it a closer read when I have time. I'm endlessly fascinated by the metabolic and activity changes that occur. Very hard to pin down the timing, especially since, as your graph shows, the activity/metabolism changes go up and then down. Definitely an important area of study!

Yeah, would be interesting to see. I know that glucose uptake and mitochondrial respiration are issues with E4, but hadn’t thought much about how the neurons act when fatty acids are needed as fuel in E4 vs E3 brains

Yeah, would be interesting to see what the ephys looks like in a slice using glucose or palmitate as a fuel source. Would that be doable?

Seriously. Especially for APOE, you never see phenotypes like that.

It’s an interesting area of research…using preclinical models of course.

It’s fascinating. For some reason, I had always thought about the dangers associated with preterm birth to be solely due to the underdevelopment of the baby…I hadn’t considered the different dangers that could occur based on how the baby is treated in the ICU after the birth.

Thought I was getting an email saying the study sections are going to be postponed, but instead: “we ask that you continue your preparations for upcoming review meetings as best you can.” 🤷🏻‍♂️ ok, I’ll keep going

Hmm. Well, if that’s the case, they might as well cancel the study section
October 21, 2025 at 11:28 AM
Yeah, mine are due Oct 27 for a Nov 5 review date. Just hard to focus on the reviews when I don’t believe the study section is going to happen
